I have helped educate others about the Naturalization Interview since 2012, first with a volunteer-driven program in Storm Lake, Iowa and now with Lutheran Services Iowa in Des Moines, Iowa. During the pandemic, I developed a series of resources which I used, and continue to use, via online sessions with individuals seeking citizenship. All material comes directly from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services website.

During the interview, applicants are asked to read and write between one and three sentences in English, to answer up to ten questions about American history and government, and to confirm the information on the N-400 application form. After an applicant passes the interview, he/she is then required to attend a Naturalization Ceremony.
